Trenton boys upend Ranchers; Wolves girls hold off Sherwood

Trinity Christian's boys basketball team bounced back from a 78-56 loss to Killdeer-Halliday Friday to defeat Sherwood-Mohall Saturday.

Also Saturday, Underwood bounced Burke County 56-36.

Also on Friday, Tioga belted Burke County 78-56, Trenton beat Powers Lake 63-54, and Divide County upended Ray 50-43. In Class B girls , Watford City tipped Sherwood 46-45 and Stanley beat Kenmare 65-44.

MOHALL - Leading just 35-29 going into the fourth, the Crusaders ripped off a 21-8 final quarter to seal the win.

Eli Black led with 15 points, while Kent Grueneich added 12 and Kyle Ceynar had 11.

Mohall-Sherwood was led by Brandon Larson with 12 and Nate Beckman with 10.

UNDERWOOD - Underwood only led 22-16 at the break, but the Titans couldn't forge a rally in the second half.

Underwood was led by Brian Fransen's 22 points, while Willie Wenschlag added 14.

Jordan Johnson scored 12 to lead BC, with Eric Rick adding 11.

At Williston State College, Killdeer-Halliday burned up the nets running with a 50-point first half. The Crusaders cut a big lead to 10 with about 4:30 left to play in the half, but Killdeer's Jacob Wheeling hit four three-pointers to help push the lead to 50-24 at the half and TCS never recovered.

Wheeling hit seven first-half threes to lead all scoring with 29 points.

Mat Dolezal added 18 points and Shany Tuhy had 11 to go with seven assists for the Cowboys. Colin Pelton chipped in eight boards.

TCS was led by Eli black with 14 points and six assists, while Kyle Ceynar had 13 points. Jason Stewart added eight boards.

LIGNITE - Jordan Johnson tried to keep Burke County in the game with 25 points to lead all scorers, but Tioga for in double figures to keep a step ahead of the Titans.

Also in double figures for BC were Eric Rick with 13 points and Kelly Iverson with 11.

Leading Tioga was Tyler Hawkinson with 17, followed by Jace Lalim with 13, while Cody Weflen and Chris Pederson each had 10.

TRENTON - Powers Lake led 12-11 after one quarter, but Trenton to lead 33-28 at the break. The Tigers kept the lead by matching the Ranchers in the second half.

Trenton was paced by Cameron Hodgkiss with 21 points, including four three-pointers. Cory Kummer added 16 points and Nick Brunelle had 10.

Powers Lake was led by Lucas Titus's 16 points, followed by Robert Moore with 15 and Jordan Carlson with 10.

EPPING - Divide County only led by four going into the fourth, but came up with a 21-point finish to grab the win. Cody Roland led the way with 16 points, while Grant Windfaldet had 14 and Derek Benter 10.

Ray's only double digit scorer was Matt Heier with 17, while Shane Hill added nine and Charlie Anderson had eight.

WATFORD CITY - In a back and forth affair, the Wolves had to hold on as the Wildcats made a late charge in the fourth quarter. Sherwood led by one at the break, but the Wolves defense held them to six points in the third to get the lead and hold on for the win.

Watford City was led by Sonny Schulz and Ashlee Heiser with 14 points apiece, with Bethany Mulder chipping in 12.

Sherwood was paced by Megan Trout's 15 points, followed by Miranda Benning with 13 and Whitney Stanley with 10.

KENMARE - Stanley scored 20 points in each of the first two quarters to build a 40-28 halftime lead and then the Blue Jays defense didn't allow any kind of comeback in the second half.

McKenzie Nohr led a balanced Stanley attack with 14 points, followed by Heidi Gray with 13 and Ashley Hollekim with 12.

Kenmare was led by Kayla Miller with 18 points, while Joy Corey scored eight.
