Pirates, Braves girls cagers notch wins

In Class B girls basketball action Saturday, Tioga outlasted Grenora-Westby 49-40. On Friday, Parshall defeated Alexander 49-38.

Tioga 49, G-W 40

GRENORA - The Pirates' defense held the Gophers to single digits in three of the four quarters.

Tioga was led by Abby Bratlien's 17 points, followed by Patricia Hove, Vanessa Hove and Lindley Spooner each with eight points.

Grenora-Westby was led by Courtney Nordhagen with 15 points, followed by Jenna Kueffler with nine and Jen Oster had eight. Tioga 14 10 7 18 - 49

ALEXANDER - Parshall's 15-2 first quarter ended up being the difference as the two teams played nearly even the rest of the way.

Lexi Taft paced the Braves with 14 points, while Joelle Bangen, Danielle Many Ribs and Katie Hall each scored nine.

Alexander's leading scorer was Morgan Neer with 12, followed by Chrissy Helling with 11 and Amanda Rettig with 10.
